Description

Take on the task of inheriting your grandmother’s carinderia by travelling across the Philippines, learning how to cook iconic Filipino dishes, and discovering the history and culture of its place of origin. Explore the region, talk to the locals, and learn famous Filipino recipes!

Project Objective

Lutong Bahay: Lola's Home Cooking aims to showcase iconic Filipino dishes, utilizing the interactive and immersive characteristic of videogames in order to facilitate an understanding of how the dishes are prepared, as well as the historical background of how the dishes originated. The project also seeks to instill in its players a deeper appreciation towards the rich and culturally diverse culinary history and traditions of the Philippines. In doing so, the developers hope that the project could help spark interest towards our local cuisine, not only on a national level, but on a global scale as well.

i loved this so so so so much, it made me cry and giggle and made me have fun and think about my lola who passed, may she rest in peace. im mixed so i didnt always grow up very connected to my filipino heritage but as i became a teenager and showed more interest in our culture, my lola would cook me more filipino food and when i moved away for college i started cooking more filipino food too! this game taught me about variations on dishes that i didnt know about and i want to try some of the dishes and ingredient suggestions that i learned through this game! my lola would make me lumpia sariwa for my birthday so it was really fun and nastolgic making the lumpiang ubod in the game. I usually use bamboo shoots but now i want to try with the hearts of palm. theyre usually easier to find than bamboo shoots in american grocery stores so i feel like that also goes along with the lesson of making do with what is available!! my family also uses tamarind or sometimes lemon for our sinigang, not the packet so i gigled in the game when i saw that too!! (i use the packet now though usually hehe- srry lola the chemicals taste yummy and its so convenient lolol but she was definitely all about fresh ingredients!) last note is that my lola also spoke kampampangan and spent some of her upbringing in pampanga so that was also awesome to see in this game it put a huge smile on my face ^w^ the graphics were awesome, the characters amazing, i really had a great time and got to learn more!!!! imma be sending this to my cousins heheh :P

I'm Filipino American. This game is really good, it made me cry and it really touched my heart. I know it's not sad but my mom passed away when I was very young. This game reminded me of cooking with her in the kitchen. I really hope you guys have all the success in the world.

I'm so sad that only a few people know about this game. This showcases the Filipino culture so well—imbued with passion towards the culture's delicacies. It's clear that many haven't seen or appreciate this game enough. Nevertheless, I had so much fun! The art, the ui, the game mechanics are all beautiful. It has depth and adds meaning to the story. Good job! Kudos to everyone that made this game!

As a Filipina myself, I'm happy that our culture is being shown in such a creative and beautiful way.  ANG GANDA HUEY

Hello!!! I played this game a few years ago and absolutely loved it, but I heard it got updated and decided to play it again.
There’s so much more story, event stills, and cooking than before!!!
I really love Teacher Maricela's Trivia Time! Learning about Filipino culture was super fun, and I enjoyed looking up all the food names and traditions mentioned.
The scene at the end where you return from your journey—absolutely loved it!!!!!!
The appearance of the simple dish, especially the one shown on the title screen, was such a powerful moment.
I’m really close to my grandmother, so I played through it with tears in my eyes, nya (=;ω;=)
Thank you for this amazing game. If there are more updates, I’ll definitely play it again, nya!
